Today's topic is about some very interesting phrases using 2 words - pots or pans . This should help me; in any instance, some one would use it against me. Well, at least I know what it means. (Because I was from mandarin school before, so my English level not as standard as all of you “overseas people” - (0_o) - oh please do believe in my weepy excuses!
Anyways, let us go through how do we relate the chaos using these 2 words - Pots and Pans
The English Lesson
1. The pot calling the Cattle black.
Meaning: accusing someone of faults one has oneself.
Example : She has the audacity to accuse us of telling lies — talk about the pot calling the kettle black!
Meaning : To keep alive the interest in something.
Example: Frequent finger pointing on pass issues kept the pot boiling.
Meaning : How events or circumstances develop.
Example: Our next happy hour discussion depends on how things pan out.
Meaning : To be spoiled or ruined.
Example: If these people continue to badmouth about others, their magnificent image will go to pot.
Meaning : To do something that is impossible, especially put something into a space that is too small for it.
Example: Why don’t you give up! Filling your tiny brain with all these alphabets will be like putting a quart into a pint pot.
Meaning : sudden, brilliant success which is short-lived and not repeated.
Example: Her first defense against herself and her love life was a flash in the pan, but the others that followed have been quite disappointing. – this one is quite deep.
Meaning : A very large prize or reward almost impossible to get.
Example : After all these hassle to offense others, I wonder who will finally get the pot of gold.
